List of Emigrants from Zweibrücken - 1728 - 1749; Eine Liste deutscher Auswanderer nach den amerikanischen Kolonien aus Zweibrücken in der Pfalz 1728-1749; Dr. Friedrich Krebs in Speyer; aus „Pennsylvania German pioneers“ (Norristown, Pa. 1934)" ---------------------------- Nohfelden ------------- Johannes Michel Staudt, a nephew of Abraham Staudt, was born October 9, 1712. He was the son of Johannes Staudt, a member of the Select Council of Wolfersweiler, and a grandson of Tilman Staudt. The father Johannes Staudt was bom at Hirschweiler January 9, 1678. and died at Wolfersweiler October 6, 1755. He was married at Wolfersweiler July 16, 1699, to Maria Engel Britzius, a daughter of Johan Nickel Britzius, of Achtelbach, Juror of the Court of Justice. At the baptism of Johannes Michel Staudt, Michel Bruck and Johannes Geiss, of Gimbweiler, were godfathers, hence the name Johannes Michel. The godmother was the mother’s sister Christina Britzius. Michel Staudt was the first of the family to make his home in Pennsylvania. He sailed on the good ship Merchant of London, which landed at Philadelphia September 18th, 1733. On October 25, 1737, there was surveyed unto him a tract of 180 acres on the west bank of the Schuylkill River opposite "the flat meadows.” He was already seated on this land at the time of survey. He apparently returned to Zweibruecken in 1749 to visit his parents and friends at Wolf-ersweiler. Upon his return his brother Johannes accompanied him. In the same company most likely was the widow of Jacob Britzius of Wolf¬ersweiler who “with her four children left for America in 1749.” Johannes Staudt resided for a time with his brother Michel, and then removed to Brunswick, Schuylkill County, where he died. Michel Staudt died at Stoudts Ferry on the Schuylkill May 3, 1776, and was buried at the Bern Reformed church, of which he was one of the founders. He was the father of 12 children. George Wilhelm Staudt, who qualified at Philadelphia on October 20, 1744, and Johan Nickel Staudt, who landed at Philadelphia September 18, 1773, were probably brothers of Michel Staudt. It is known that he had broth¬ers of those names. The several notes on the Staudt family are rather extended. The purpose is obvious. To make this information available to the many descendants, and to show by this cross section, as it were, how these families that emmigrated from Zweibruecken were related by ties of kinship.
